Mission Statement

  • Our main goal is to conduct research towards the advancement of manufacturing science and related enabling systems and to provide industrially relevant quality engineering education.

  • We are mainly interested in advanced manufacturing processes to produce discrete products and manufacturing systems for high productivity, high efficiency, and sustainable production. Therefore, our research revolves around the interaction of people, machines, computers, sensors, energy sources, and environmental factors.

Research Focus

  • MARL group's research expertise is on experimental, analytical & computational modeling and analysis of advanced manufacturing processes such as high-speed machining, hard turning, micro-milling, laser micro-machining, and laser-based additive manufacturing.

  • We develop computational models to design, analyze, and optimize such advanced processes  for high product quality, performance, and sustainable production. The application areas include but are not limited to: i) aerospace and automotive production, ii) medical devices and biomedical implant production, iii) clean and green energy device production and iii) micro-electronics and critical infrastructure device production.

  • We also develop model-based process optimization & multi-criteria decision support techniques for advanced manufacturing processes using sensor-assisted process monitoring data, autonomous machine learning & neural network modeling, and evolutionary computational algorithms.

Graduate Student/ Assistantship Opportunities

  • Applications are always welcome from highly qualified students for Graduate Studies leading to M.S. or Ph.D degrees in Industrial & Systems Engineering with a focus on Production & Manufacturing Engineering. The candidates should have strong academic records and be highly motivated individuals with great enthusiasm for learning. A strong engineering background in manufacturing, simulation modeling, experimental design and physics based modeling with hands on experience using lasers, machine tools, metrology & material characterization equipment is desired.
