  • Mr. Guoliang Liu, a visiting Ph.D. student from Shandong University, China completed his stay at Prof. Özel's research lab from 1 November 2017 until 1 November 2018.  Mr. Liu has worked on finite element modeling machining processes, experimenting machining with micro-textured cutting tools,  and finite element simulation of milling additively fabricated nickel alloys.
  • Mr. Jixiong Fei, a visiting Ph.D. student from Tianjin University, China completed his stay at Prof. Özel's research lab from 1 November 2017 until 1 November 2018.  Mr. Fei has worked on modeling of milling thin walled workpieces, and experimental analysis of milling additively fabricated nickel alloys.

  • Prof. Özel has given a keynote paper presentation in The 63rd CIRP General Assembly on August 19th, 2013 in Copenhagen, Denmark. The keynote paper was co-authored with P. Arrazola, T. Ozel, D. Umbrello, M. Davies, and I.S. Jawahir.
    CIRP is the world leading organization in production engineering research and is at the forefront of design, optimization, control and management of processes, machines and systems. The Academy has restricted membership based on demonstrated excellence in research and has some 600 academic and industrial members from 50 industrialized countries.     Prof. Özel is the only elected CIRP member from Rutgers University.

  • Prof. Özel has been appointed to serve on the NAMRI/SME Scientific Committee for the 2012-2014 term (a three-year term).

  • Prof. Özel has been invited to the Scientific Committee of The Fifth CIRP Conference on High Performance Cutting, that will be held on June 4-7, 2012 in Zurich, Switzerland.

  • Prof. Özel receives another grant award in the amount of $130,000 from National Science Foundation.
    The grant award is entitled "EAGER: Pulsed Laser Assisted Exfoliation of Single Crystalline SiC Thin Layers for Cost Effective Micro-Device Fabrication".

  • Prof. Özel receives a grant award in the amount of $388,345 from National Science Foundation.
    The grant award is entitled "Predictive Modeling and Optimization of Machining Induced Surface Integrity with Applications in Titanium and Nickel-Based Alloyed End Products."

  • Prof. Özel hosted the Second Annual Meetings for the IREBID project titled "Biomedical Devices Design, Prototyping and Manufacturing".
    The IREBID project is     an European Commission-Marie Curie grants funded program. The meetings were held in Rutgers Busch campus – CoRE Building on July 11-29, 2011.

  • Prof. Özel is organizing together with European and North & South American partners The First International Conference on Design and PROcesses for MEdical Devices (PROMED 2012) in Brescia - Italy on May 2-4, 2012.
    This conference aims to bring together researchers around the world from engineering, science and medical fields for stimulating meetings and discussions about advanced manufacturing, medical devices, design, development, and biomaterials.

  • Prof. Özel publishes a new edited book titled "Micro-Manufacturing: Design and Manufacturing of Micro-Products". 
    The book is co-edited by M. Koc and     Prof. Özel has been published. (ISBN: 978-0-470-55644-3 Wiley, Hardcover 404 pages, 2011).

  • Prof. Özel  chaired a session on "Machining" and gave two presentations at The 39th North American Manufacturing Research Conference (NAMRC) on June 14-15, 2011 in Corvallis, Oregon.

  • Prof. Özel has been invited to the Scientific Committee of The Ninth International Conference on High Speed Machining, that will be held on March 7-8, 2012 in San Sebastian, Spain.

  • Mr. Mohamed Amin who is supported by the NSF REU Program has joined the MARL group as summer student on April 15, 2011.

  • Mr. Harkaitz Urreta, Microtechnology and Ultraprecision Manager from IDEKO IK4 Technological Center in Spain visited Rutgers MARL and gave a presentation on April 8, 2011.

  • Mr. Simone Farina has defended his Master's Thesis titled “Micro End Milling of Ti-6Al-4V: Forces and Tool’s Deflections Analysis" in March 15, 2011 at the Dept. of Mechanical & Industrial Engineering in University of Brescia (Universitŕ degli Studi di Brescia). He was co-advised together with Prof. Elisabetta Ceretti.

  • Prof. Özel visited GREP, University of Girona, Catalonia, Spain on March 14 to 18, 2011 and gave invited lectures on "Product and Process Engineering" and "Innovative Manufacturing Technologies". Dr. Özel also visited laboratories of the GREP group and conducted meetings related to IREBID project.

  • Dr. Daniel Attinger of Columbia University visited Rutgers MARL and gave a seminar on "Microfluidic Engineering of Solid-Liquid Interfaces" on February 01, 2011.

  • Prof. Özel has given an invited presentation at The CIRP STC-C meetings  on January 27, 2011 in Paris, France.

  • Prof. Özel has been invited to the Scientific Committee of The Fifth International Conference on Advanced Research in Virtual and Rapid Prototyping (VRAP 2011) that will be held on September 28-October 1, 2011 in Leiria, Portugal.

  • Prof. Özel attended the 2011 NSF-CMMI Research and Innovation Conference in Atlanta, GA on January 4 to 7, 2011. Dr. Özel together with his students had a conference paper and poster presentation about their recent research on "Physics-based simulation of machining titanium alloys" funded by NSF.

  • Prof. Özel has been invited to the International Advisory Board, International Conference on Computational Methods in Manufacturing (ICCMM 2011), that will be held on December 15-16, 2011 at the Indian Institute of Technology Guwahati in Guwahati, India.
