Organization Chart
The organization chart of the QRE Center is shown in Figure 1. Site Directors report to their corresponding Deans of Engineering. The Director at Rutgers interacts with the other sites, the IAB, NSF, and the Academic Policy Committee, which consists of representatives from involved universities to ensure the timely availability of resources for research conduct. The committee is available to address policy issues such as patents and licensing, etc. The IAB advises the Center¡¯s management on all aspects of the Center from research projects evaluation to strategic planning. The IAB meets twice per year at the membership meetings of the Center. The Center Director manages the operation of the Center, including administration of Center funds and the preparation of budgets. The Director acts as a liaison with member companies, recruits new industry participants, defines new areas of research jointly with company members, deals with affiliate universities, and interacts with the administration of the involved universities. The Associate Director acts in support of the Director with particular emphasis on recruitment of new sponsors and liaison with existing company members. The various research programs, i.e., quality engineering, reliability engineering, etc., consist of several projects such as quality process control, software reliability, reliability testing, risk and safety analysis, etc., with a coherent focus on an industrial interest. Each project in the Center will have a monitor (typically the project¡¯s research professor) and an observer from industry (who may be an IAB representative or an engineer assigned from an IAB member company). Dr. Donald McCabe serves as the Center¡¯s NSF Evaluator. The Evaluator¡¯s purpose is to serve as a liaison between the Center Director, the NSF, and the industrial sponsors of the Center. The evaluator is charged with writing and maintaining a structured historical profile of the QRE Center on an annual basis, administering and preparing process outcome questionnaires from the faculty and industrial sponsors, conducting exit interviews with representatives of departing companies, attending semi-annual IAB meetings, attending semi-annual NSF sponsored evaluator meetings, and providing information and feedback to both the NSF and the Center Director. |
