Samba Security Modes

  • share -- Stand alone workgroup server; one share and password for multiple users; example: print server.

  • user -- User name and password authentication for Domain logon and accessing shares.

  • domain -- Samba joints an NT4 domain; doesn't contain accounts itself.

  • ADS -- Samba joins an Active Directory Domain.

  • server -- Quires another Samba or NT4 server for user accounts.
