General guidelines for transferring OUT of the School of Engineering:
Students interested in trasferring out of Engineering should be aware that there are
specific course, application timelines, GPA, and credit restrictions when transferring to specific schools.
Below are some requirements necessary for a transfer into the School of Arts and Sciences
(SAS) from the School of Engineering (SOE):
Students must be enrolled full-time in the current semester at SOE.
Students must have completed a minimum of 24 credits at Rutgers University by the end
of the semester in which they are submitting their transfer application.
Students must complete a minimum of 30 credits as a matriculated SAS student
prior to graduation. Students transferring into the School of Arts and Sciences with greater
than 90 credits will be required to complete extra credits for graduation, possibly resulting
in additional time and tuition payments, in order to fulfill the 30 credit residency requirement.
Students who will have completed 90 or more credits in their present school by the end of the
current semester should consult with a transfer advisor in the School of Arts and Sciences prior
to submitting a school to school transfer application.
Students must have a cumulative grade point average of 2.000 by the end of the semester in which
the application is submitted.
Students must earn a term grade point average of 2.000 with no grades of NG, TF or TZ in the

indicating successful completion of this requirement.
Atudents must specify a Major that is offered through the School of Arts and Sciences and for
which they are eligible and/or toward which they have made significant progress.
The requirements for school-to-school transfer for specific schools can be found here:
If you are considering transferring out of the School of Engineering, it is a good idea to
contact a Dean in B100 in order to make sure you have taken the necessary steps in order to
have a successful transfer. First Year students should contact Dean Rankin (jerankin@rci.rutgers.edu).
All other students may contact Dean Prendergast (lprend@rci.rutgers.edu) or Dean Bernath (bernath@rci.rutgers.edu).
To prepare for transfer, you may request permission to enroll for one
semester of a non-engineering program while still enrolled as a School of Engineering student.
See below for details.
Non-engineering Program
If you intend to transfer to another school, you may request permission for
enrollment in a Non-engineering program by submission of a form at B100. This permission allows
you to enroll in non-engineering courses for one semester only and your major will be changed to Non-Engineering
(001) until you transfer out. You are responsible for
applying for a school-to-school transfer within the appropriate deadlines. If you are denied
transfer, you may not be allowed to continue in the School of Engineering. It is necessary to
make sure that you have taken all off the appropriate steps for transferring.
See
for transfer timelines, requirements, etc. See a Dean in B100 for further clarification.
