HELLO TRANSFER STUDENTS!
Congratulations on your acceptance and welcome to the School of Engineering! We're delighted you're coming, and want to make your transition as smooth as possible. Here is some information, both necessary and useful, to guide you along the way.

For those students who have recently attended a Transfer Orientation Session, below is an account of information that you need to know.

Check your Schedule.
You should have registered for your courses at the Transfer Orientation Session. Please go onto WEBREG to look at your schedule (http://webreg.rutgers.edu). In some cases, you may be missing a course (or two) due to closed sections. Please check your schedule carefully.

Closed courses/Special Permission.
If there are any courses that you want to get into but they are closed, you will have to contact the department that offers the course to see if you can get a special permission number (SPN). For example, if you wanted to take 01:640:244, 01:750:203, 14:650:231, 01:160:161, 01:640:421, or 01:220:308 but it’s full, you should contact the department that teaches the course (ie. History, Mechanical Engineering, Psychology, Math, Economics, etc). (FYI - the Dean’s office has SPN’s ONLY for courses starting with 14:440). Some offices have specific procedures to obtain an SPN. The Math dept has an on-line submission for SPN's and will not give out an SPN until classes begin (http://math.rutgers.edu/). Some departments may advise you to go to the class that you want to attend and talk to the professor to get a special permission number.

If you are able to get a special permission number (SPN) from the department/professor, you can try to add it yourself on Webreg, or send the index and SPN to us via email. If you cannot get a SPN from the dept, keep checking the web until classes start. If you see a spot open up, try and register for it. If you have problems registering before classes begin, send us the info, and we will register for you. Otherwise, you will have to pick a different course that is open.

Posting of transfer credits to RU transcript.
Your most recent transfer credits may not be in the system yet, so changing your registration might be difficult until this is completed. Be sure that you send us an updated transcript with all posted grades. If you find an open section of a course or courses that you want to register for, try it on your own first, if you are unsuccessful, then send us the title(s) and index number(s). Once your transfer credits are in (you can check on this by going through WEBREG or the phone system TTRS), you can adjust your schedule as you see fit.

Future registration.
After your transfer credits are in the system, YOU will be completing all of your own registration via WEBREG or the phone system TTRS. Starting mid semester, you should look for registration dates in your Rutgers email account (user@eden.rutgers.edu), on the Registrar's website (http://registrar.rutgers.edu/NB/CALEN-NB.HTM), or posted in our office (EN-B100). If you have problems locating this info or with registering, please let us know ASAP so that we can try and answer questions for you to get you going.

RU Email, Post Office, ID Card.
You must sign up for a Rutgers eden email account (at http://www.eden.rutgers.edu) and find out what your campus post office box is (if you live on-campus) in the Busch Campus Post Office (located in the Busch Campus Center). You can get your RU ID card in the Busch Housing Office, please call them for dates (732-445-0044).

Email Etiquette.
The Deans and Staff in B100 greatly appreciate if students provide their name, major, graduation year, and RU-ID # in an email so that we can easily identify you. We also appreciate if students would email one dean at a time and wait for a response, as opposed to sending a copy of one email to multiple deans without the other dean(s) knowing - resulting in 2 or more people researching the same thing. When writing emails, it is suggested that you take a mildly conservative approach to your words and remember who your intended audience is. Check your email for grammar, spelling, and typos. Don't use too many abbreviations or slang words; any profanity is obviously frowned upon. In short, when sending emails, be to the point, polite, patient, and professional. Hopefully we have and will continue to doing the same for you.
