Readmission for Students in Good Standing
If you left Rutgers University in Good Standing (ie. not Dismissed), and you
wish to return to RU to pursue Engineering, please submit an

If you wish to return to Rutgers to pursue a non-engineering major, you should apply directly to
the school in which you are interested.
Readmission for Dismissed Students
Under normal circumstances when students have been dismissed from the School of Engineering (SoE) for
academic reasons, they must successfully complete 15 – 24 credits of relevant coursework
(math, science, engineering) at another institution with B's and better before submitting an
application for readmission.
For readmission to an engineering major, courses must be math, science or
engineering - directly relevant to your major. For readmission into a
non-engineering program (to prepare for transfer out of the School of Eng'g), any degree
credit courses are acceptable (note: Expository Writing, 01:355:101 must be completed before
transfer to the School of Arts and Sciences - SAS). It also may be possible for those interested
in non-engineering studies to apply directly into SAS or other RU School.

Summer Readmission. In some cases, it may be possible for dismissed students to earn readmission by completing at least
two courses (at least 6 total credits) during the Rutgers Summer Session. For readmission to an engineering major, courses must be math,
science or engineering - directly relevant to your major. For readmission for a non-engineering program to prepare for transfer, any degree
credit courses are acceptable (note: Expository Writing, 01:355:101 must be completed before
transfer).
To be eligible for consideration for readmission based on Rutgers summer courses only,
students must complete at least two courses (totalling 6 credits at least) and earn grades of “B” or better in each, and their
cumulative grade point averages at the end of the summer must be at least:
1.600 cumulative GPA if it is based on 1 – 30 credits
1.800 cumulative GPA if it is based on 31 – 60 credits
2.000 cumulative GPA if it is based on more than 60 credits
Futhermore, for students with more than 60 credits in the cumulative GPA, the major GPA
(average of all “M” prefix courses) must be at least 1.900 prior to readmission if an engineering
major is requested.
For students who were dismissed from the preceding spring semester, the application for readmission
must be submitted no later than July 1st to be considered for fall
readmission. To be valid, courses must be approved by the Associate Dean for Academic Affairs.
Decisions will be issued upon review of summer grades.
SPECIAL NOTES:
Students who were DISMISSED after the preceding spring semester should be aware that your Fall
schedule, Housing, Financial Aid, Meal Plan, etc. may be cancelled as a result of the Dismissal
even if you are applying for readmission based on summer courses.
Courses must be approved by the Associate Dean for Academic Affairs.
Decisions will be issued upon review of summer grades.
YOU ARE A DISMISSED STUDENT UNTIL A DECISION OF READMISSION HAS BEEN ISSUED.
YOU ARE NOT ELIGIBLE TO REGISTER FOR FALL COURSES UNTIL READMISSION IS APPROVED.
