PROFICIENCY/CREDIT EXAMINATION POLICY

With approval of the Office of Academic Affiars and the academic department concerned, a School of Engineering student who is in good standing may, upon payment of the appropriate fee to the Cashier, take a proficiency examination in courses offered at the university to fulfill a prerequisite, or to satisfy a course requirement, or for degree credit. Approval for degree credit must be obtained from the Office of Academic Affairs prior to taking the examination. Degree credit is given for grade of “B” or better or as determined by the department concerned. Grades on such examinations are not included in the term or cumulative grade point average. Proficiency/Credit examinations are NOT allowed in the following cases:

-Repeat of a failed course or withdrawn course
-Pre-req’s for that course have not been satisfied
-Currently registered for the course
-English 098 through 103
-Mathematics 001 through 115
-Mini-courses
-Independent study/Special Problems courses
-Courses in which the principal content is laboratory or creative work, since the course’s primary value is in the student’s continuing and supervised participation
-Language courses at or below the intermediate level for native speakers
-Military education courses
-Repeat of a previous proficiency exam
