What is a Pre-requisite? A pre-requisite is a course that must be completed successfully
(meaning a grade of D or better) PRIOR to taking the next course. For example, Calculus 2 has a pre-requisite
of Calculus 1. If you have not successfully completed Calculus 1, then you do not have the pre-requisite for
Calculus 2, and do not qualify to take the course. If you took Calc 1 and Withdrew or got an F, then you must
repeat Calc 1 (and pass it with a D or better) in order to register for Calc 2 in the proceeding semester.
If you do not have the pre-req, but feel you are prepared for the course, then you should see the department
that offers the course to inquire about a Pre-requsite Override. For example, if you took and failed
(or withdrew) from Electronic Devices but feel you are prepared for Digital Electronics (which requires ED
as a pre-req), then you need to contact the Electrical and Computer Engineering Department Undergraduate Director,
Dr Sannuti, to see if a pre-req override will be given. Once you obtain the pre-req override, bring it into B100
for registration assistance.
If you have completed the prerequisite(s), but were unsuccessful when registering,
come into B-100 for assistance.
If you have not completed the prerequisite, but think you should be able to override this
requirement, get a prerequisite override from the department offering the course
().
Then bring this form into B-100 for further assistance.
What is a co-requisite? A co-crequisite means that a course must be taken at the same time as another
course. For example, Computer Archtecture and Computer Architecture Lab are co-requeistes. They must be taken
concurrently.
What is a Special Permission Number? A Special Permission Number (SPN) is a 6 digit number that is used
to allow a student register for course that is full or that is not open to that student's major or class year.
If you want to get into a course that is full or is not open to your class year or major, see the department that
offers the course
()
to inquire about getting a Special Permission Number. For example, Biology 101 is full and you
want to take that course. You should contact the Life Sciences department and request a special permission number.
For Math courses, the Math dept has a structured web special permission request process that you must follow.
If you are given an SPN, you can attempt to register for the course on your own, or bring it into B100 for further
assistance.
14:440 courses - Come into B-100 for the number.
All other courses - go to the department that offers the course for the number,
whether it is Mech. Eng'g, Math, Economics, Spanish, etc. See for locations.
If you are not listed as a school 14 student and need to take a school 14 course,
see Dean Bernath in B-100 for approval first. See
Dean Bernath during his office Hours.
