All First Year Engineering students are eligible for on-campus housing.
Students who have confirmed that they are coming to Rutgers will get a Welcome email from
the Housing Office which will inform you of when the on-line application will be available.
Those who are accepted into the Honors Program
are eligible to receive Honors Housing.
First Year Engineering students can also opt to live in one of the Freshman Engineering Dormitories.
Freshman Engineering Dormitories. The transition from high school to college, especially
into a professional school like the School of Engineering, can be a challenge.
We here at Rutgers School of Engineering want to ease this transition and help new students
immediately connect with our full engineering community, its faculty, and administration.
When students are fully involved with their fellow engineering students and faculty in both
academic and social interaction, success in the classroom comes more readily.
We have worked hard to make the first year program at our school a truly supportive community of scholars.
With the assistance of the Rutgers Residence Life and Busch Campus Housing staff, the
recently-remodeled Barr Hall and Mattia Hall on the Busch Campus have been designated beginning
the Fall 2004 semester as "The Freshman Engineering Houses."
The approximately 200 beds in each dormitory will be assigned only to new incoming first year
School of Engineering students on a first request, first assigned basis.
Barr Hall is co-ed; Mattia is male only. If you need additional information
about this you can contact Lyn Krueger with the Residence Life Office at (732)932-4371.
These are the first dormitories exclusively occupied by Engineering students at Rutgers University.
Incorporated into this living arrangement are activities held within the dormitory lounge and study room that
support academic and professional progress. These activities include social events, presentations
of interest to prospective engineers regarding academic major choices, career preparation,
undergraduate research and cooperative education arrangements, international study opportunities,
and other valuable extensions to the normal curriculum.
The dormitory residents will have the advantage of interaction with the student body Engineering
Governing Council and several other student organizations. It is also envisioned that extra academic
support in the form of group study and examination preparation sessions will also be centered in Barr Hall. All of
these opportunities can bring a stronger sense of direction for your career, a fuller sense of involvement in the
Engineering community, and a boost to your academic achievements from your very first day on campus.
If you are interested in the Barr Hall or Mattia Hall First Year Engineering Dormitory, you may indicate your preference on the
on-line housing application. Students can access the housing application via the Enrollment Pathway:
