TO: ALL CLASS OF 2011 ENGINEERING STUDENTS
FROM: Jeffery L. Rankin, Assistant Dean for First Year Students
RE: CHOICE OF MAJOR AND REGISTRATION FOR FALL 2008
All first year students will register for Fall 2008 courses by associating with the
department administering their chosen engineering major. Therefore, when choosing your
courses, you must declare your major.
MAJORS NIGHT
An Engineering Majors Night will be held:
March 26th
7-9pm
Barr Hall Main Lounge.
Come out and join us to find out more information on engineering majors.
DECLARATION OF MAJOR: You must complete the official Declaration of Major on-line at
the web site below. Please be sure to enter the entire site address exactly as written.
This must be done by 4:00 pm on Monday, April 14, 2008.
You will need to enter your Rutgers web ID to complete this page. If you have problems
with this, you may come to our office for assistance. Complete the selection by clicking
the button next to your major choice. Your major is the engineering curriculum you will
follow in your remaining three years at Rutgers. Although the university reserves the
right to limit enrollment in particular disciplines, all majors in the School of
Engineering are currently open to you without restriction. Those who choose a
nonengineering program will be advised directly by me and not by a major department.
In order to connect to the secure 'Major Declaration' site, you must install a Security Certificate first.
When you click on the following link, CLICK: Open, Install Certificate, Next, Next, Finish, OK.

ANYONE WHO DOES NOT COMPLETE THE DECLARATION PROCESS ON TIME MAY BE DE-REGRISTERED AT THE
END OF APRIL AND WILL BE AT A SERIOUS DISADVANTAGE IN COURSE SELECTION.
REGISTRATION: You will receive registration information in the month of March. CONSULT WITH YOUR MAJOR
ADVISOR about the required and elective courses you should take. A list of class of
2011 advisors should be posted on the bulletin board outside each department office.
However, you may always consult the Undergraduate Director of the department. Registration
will occur from April 6 through April 18, using the computer/telephone registration system.
Follow the instructions from the Registrar. Instructions are available on the Web
Registration internet site.
HONORS PROGRAM STUDENTS: Tell your departmental advisor that you are in the Engineering Honors Program. All honors
students should also continue in Honors Calculus, Honors Mechanics, and Honors Physics.
Dean Rankin can answer questions about Honors course completion.
Career Services provides students with some valuable information about majors and careers.
