Deferred Dismissal Deferred Dismissal - Dismissal after Fall semester

(1) What happens if I choose to withdraw for the spring semester?
If you decide to leave the University and not enroll in the spring semester, you must make arrangements to officially withdraw by completing a withdrawal form which is available at http://coewww.rutgers.edu/oaa/withdrawal.php or in B100. If you withdraw, you are responsible for contacting other University offices with whom you may have contracts, such as Housing, Financial Aid, and Dining Services. If you leave the University, a notation of “Academic Dismissal” will be placed on your transcript. If you choose this option, you must submit the Response form that comes with the Dismissal letter at EN-B100 no later than date specified in your letter, usually 1 week after the start of spring classes. Please be aware, if you do not attend Rutgers this spring, you will need to take ~15-24 credits outside of Rutgers in order to be considered for reinstatement. The specifics of which courses to take should be worked out with Dean Bernath.

(2) What happens if I choose to take non-engineering courses in the spring semester?
If you decide to take non-engineering courses in the spring semester, you are expected to transfer out of the School of Engineering after the spring semester. In order to be eligible for transfer, you will have to complete at least 12 credits of coursework with no “F’s” or “W’s”. Please check transfer requirements here: http://admissions.rutgers.edu/collegetocollege/. If you are successful in transferring to another college within the University, there will be no Dismissal notation on your transcript. If you do poorly in your spring courses, you may be Dismissed completely from the University, where you may need to take ~15-24 credits outside of Rutgers in order to be considered for reinstatement. If you choose this option, you must submit the Response form that comes with the Dismissal letter at EN-B100 no later than date specified in your letter, usually 1 week after the start of spring classes. If you choose this option and later withdraw from the spring semester, you will be considered Dismissed (as in Option 1).

(3) What happens if I want to continue engineering courses in the spring semester?
If you wish to continue your enrollment in engineering, math, and science courses and formally request a review of your status at the end of the Spring 2005 semester, you must submit the Response form that comes with the Dismissal letter at EN-B100 no later than date specified in your letter, usually 1 week after the start of spring classes. If you do poorly in your spring courses, you may be Dismissed completely from the University, where you may need to take ~15-24 credits of math and science related courses outside of Rutgers in order to be considered for reinstatement. If your record in engineering and related courses improves significantly in Spring 2005, you may be eligible for reinstatement at the end of the semester. You should be warned that there is some risk to this approach, since if you perform poorly in engineering courses, you will not be reinstated, and you would also not qualify for transfer to another college. If you choose this option and later withdraw from the spring semester, you will be considered Dismissed (as in Option 1).
