Class Rank
Your rank in class is determined by your cumulative grade-point average compared with the averages of all other students in your class. To obtain your class rank, go to the Office of Academic Affairs, Engineering Bldg B-100. For reasons of privacy and for the security of your record, the office is unable to respond to requests for rank in class on the telephone.
Class Year
Your class year is determined by your anticipated year of graduation.
Students are classified according to where they are within the engineering curriculum.
For students who are following the engineering curriculum closely and who do not have
many 'extra'credits (ie. credits that are not counted in the engineering curriculum), you can use the following guideline:
First-year students have 0-21 credits in September;
sophomores have 22-53 credits;
juniors have 54-83 credits;
and seniors have 84 or more credits.
The Office of Academic Affairs may reclassify you if you are missing
certain courses or a number of courses required to be at that particular
class year. If you take extra classes during the semester or take
classes over the summer, you can request to be reclassified to the
appropriate year. Stop in B100 for further assistance.
Credit Load - Maximum and Minimum
Rutgers University - School of Engineering, is a full time day program. You are expected to be
a full-time student. Only if there are extenuating circumstances may our students request to be
part-time students.
The maximum credit
load is 21 credits. During early registration (ie. when you register
in the spring for the fall), you are only allowed 19 credits. This limit will be extended to 21
credits once the semester begins. If you wish to take more than the allowable limit, you must
seek the approval of a dean in the Office of Academic Affairs (B100).
The minimum credit
load is 12 credits. If there are extenuating circumstances which make it necessary for you to
reduce your course load below 12, you are considered part-time, and you must seek approval
of a dean from the Office of Academic Affairs B-100.
Part-time status may make you ineligible for services like: Univeristy Housing, Financial Aid, or coverage on your family
health insurance. You can purchase inexpensive health insurance from the University
.
