Dear visitors, I am delighted to welcome you to the site of the ISE Department at Rutgers. Here you can find all the information relevant to our program and activities.

Industrial engineering at Rutgers started in 1947 as the Engineering Administration Program which became the Industrial Engineering Program in 1956 and in the same year it became part of Mechanical, Industrial and Aerospace Engineering Department. Graduate program in IE started in 1963, offering MSIE degrees. Finally, the Department of Industrial Engineering was established as a separate unit in College of Engineering in 1981 and the Ph.D. program was approved in 1991. In 2002, the faculty decided to change the department's name to Industrial and Systems Engineering thinking that it would better represent program's research and teaching activities and interest.

Currently there are 11 faculty members, about 90 undergraduate and 55 graduate students in the department. The program offers BS, MS and PhD degrees in industrial and Systems Engineering. The undergraduate program offers specialization via tracks in Supply Chain, Manufacturing Systems, Financial Service Systems, Healthcare Management Systems, Quality Engineering and Information Technology. The graduate program offers tracks in Systems Engineering, Quality and Reliability Engineering, Manufacturing Systems Engineering and Information Technology.

I believe the ISE Department at Rutgers holds a bright future. As our new president Dr. Richard McCormick stated in his inaugural address on April 13 of 2003, the future is in service to public and collaboration with industry. Our faculty has already accumulated significant mileage in working with a number of industries through various collaborations in the areas of manufacturing, logistics, process control, transportation and homeland security. Faculty members actively pursue research funding. Over the past 4 years we brought over 5 million dollars of research and major new grants and contracts are on their way.

If you want to know more about our program, please visit our website, read our newsletters, communicate with faculty and staff or students.
