The Globally Integrated Enterprise and
Emerging Supply Chain Solutions

Dr. Grace Lin
Director
Innovation and Emerging Solutions

Abstract:

In this talk, Dr. Lin will share IBM's views and success story about the globally integrated enterprise. She will then discuss emerging themes and enablers in supply chain management, which, are also key competencies of a globally integrated enterprise.

Bio:

Dr. Lin is CTO and Director of Innovation and Emerging Solutions for Public Sector SCM at IBM’s Global Business Services (GBS). Prior to her work with GBS, Dr. Lin served as Manager for Extended Enterprise Management and Senior Manager for SCM and e-Business Optimization at the T. J. Watson Research Center. Dr. Lin initiated the Sense-and-Response Value Net efforts including S&R R&D, pilots, deployment, and S&R global consulting, and founded the IBM Value Chain Innovation Center. She led her team to win the 1999 INFORMS Edelman Award – the top honor in OR/MS in Practice – for saving IBM $750M with their Extended Enterprise Transformation. Some of her other awards include Purdue University’s Outstanding Industrial Engineer Award, IBM’s Outstanding Technical Achievement Award, and an IIE Doctoral Dissertation Award. She has been named an INFORMS Fellow, an IBM Distinguished Engineer, and one of six “SCM Gurus” by Forrester in 2002, and was elected a member of IBM’s Academy of Technology.

Dr. Lin has co-authored more than 50 technical articles and six patents, with another five pending. She is a frequent speaker at various international conferences, universities and company sessions. She has twice been elected INFORMS VP, Practice, and served as Conference Chair for both INFORMS’ 2003 and 2004 ORMS in Practice, and IEEE’s 2006 SOLI Conference. Dr. Lin has served on the editorial boards of Operations Research, M&SOM, IJVPIM, and IJSOI, on National Science Foundation panels in the US, Canada, and Ireland, as well as on a number of university boards/panels. Dr. Lin and her team’s advanced work have been recognized in such publications as Forbes Magazine, China News, Information Week, INFORMS News, ComputerGram, Electronic Guyer, Computer Reseller, Stanford Supply Chain Forum Newsletter, Forrester, and CNET. Dr. Lin received an M.S. in Applied Math and a Ph.D. in Industrial Engineering from Purdue University. She has dedicated herself to promoting diversity and mentoring and advancing women and minority populations for many years.
