Industrial
and Systems Engineering at Rutgers - At a Glance
Mission:
Our goal is to provide high quality education to our
graduate students and to conduct research, often in collaboration
with industry and other disciplines, to advance the state of knowledge
and practice in the field of industrial engineering. The program
aims to insure that each student is firmly rooted in scientific
principles and at the same time knowledgeable and confident to implement
these principles to solve relevant engineering problems in industry
and the public sector.
Research
Focus:
The research focus is in Manufacturing
Engineering and Quality/Reliability Engineering, and System
Modeling and Logistics and information technology,, four areas of critical importance
to national competitiveness and productivity. Our faculty members
have achieved international recognition for their contributions
to these areas. Both the curriculum and laboratories are designed
to support these research focuses.
Degree
Programs:
We offer programs leading to the BS, MS and
Ph.D. degrees in Industrial Engineering. For the MS degree there
are options: Industrial Engineering, Quality and Reliability Engineering,
and Manufacturing Systems Engineering.
Center
for Quality and Reliability Engineering:
This center, sponsored by the National Science Foundation's Industry/University
Cooperative program and member companies is a consortium of companies
and faculty with the mission to conduct leading edge research of interest
to its members. The center is a joint enterprise with Arizona State
University.
Laboratories:
The department offers well equipped laboratories that
are available to the graduate students. These include the Computer
Integrated Manufacturing Lab, the Quality and Reliability Lab, the
Facilities and Layout Lab, the Microcomputer Lab, the Microprocessor
and Manufacturing Information Technology Lab, and the forthcoming
Pharmaceutical Processing Lab.
