Bio........

Dr. Tugrul Özel is an Associate Professor in the Department of Industrial and Systems Engineering at Rutgers University since July 1, 2008. He received his Ph.D. degree in Mechanical Engineering from Ohio State University in 1998. He previously worked four years at NSF funded Engineering Research Center for Net Shape Manufacturing and three years as Assistant Professor in the Department of Industrial and Manufacturing Engineering at Cleveland State University. He was a summer faculty fellow at NASA Glenn Research Center in 1999 where he conducted research on micro-manufacturing processes. He published over 60 articles in refereed journals and conference proceedings. He has served in the scientific committee of numerous international conferences. Dr. Özel's research has been funded by National Science Foundation, NASA/NJ Space Grant Consortium, United Technologies Research Center and other industry. Dr. Özel is the co-author of the book “Intelligent Machining”, ISTE-Wiley. He is the Founding Editor of International Journal of Mechatronics and Manufacturing Systems as well as member of the editorial board of several international journals. He is a senior member of SME, ASME, ASEE and North American Manufacturing Research Institute (NAMRI).

Research Interests

Dr. Özel's research interests include advanced manufacturing,  computational modeling of machining processes, process simulations,  optimization of processes and systems, mechatronics, automation and control, micro/nano manufacturing with applications in alternative energy, medical and surgical devices.
