Bio

Dr. David W. Coit is an Associate Professor in the Department of Industrial & Systems Engineering. He received a BS in Mechanical Engineering from Cornell University, an MBA from Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute, and MS and Ph.D. degrees in Industrial Engineering from the University of Pittsburgh. He conducts research in system reliability optimization, power systems reliability, and multiple objective optimization. He was awarded a NSF CAREER grant in 1999 to study system reliability optimization considering uncertainty and risk-aversion. He previously worked for more than ten years at IIT Research Institute (now called Alion Science & Technology), where he managed many research projects including several projects to develop reliability prediction models for the U. S. Air Force Rome Laboratory, and a multi-year project to optimize vehicle maintenance planning for the U. S. Marine Corps Logistics Base. He is a member of IIE and INFORMS.

Research Interest

System reliability modeling and optimization, risk analysis, power systems reliability, multiple objective optimization.
