The Battle of the Engineering Departments: Let's CAN Hunger!

Congrats to Chemical and Biochemical Engineering Department for winning!

Thank you to everyone who participated. The school of engineering raised over 1,800 pounds of donations.


Hello Engineers! We are hosting a competition where faculty and students within each department combine efforts to collect nonperishable food items and toiletries for The Rutgers Food Pantry, an initiative that exclusively serves Rutgers students that are faced with food insecurity.
Guidelines for competition are as follows:
  • The food drive will take place from Nov 8- Dec 1.
  • The score will be determined by the ratio of the items collected to the total count of students and faculty in the department.
  • The larger the item, the more points awarded (measured by per ounce).     
  • The department that is able to collect the most donations will win a pizza party sponsored by EGC and Dean Farris! 
Collection boxes will be placed in each departmental academic advising building. See below to find the location of your box:

  • Rice (Small Bags/Boxes)

  • Canned Goods (Soup, Beans, Fruit, Vegetables)

  • Potatoes (Instant, Canned Potatoes, Yams)

  • Condiments (Salad Dressing, Mayonnaise, Etc.)

  • Snacks (Granola Bars, Dried Fruit, Crackers, Jello, Pudding, Etc.)

  • Beverages (Condensed Milk, Juice, Etc.)

  • Paper Products (Toilet Paper, Napkins, Paper Towels, Etc.)

  • Personal Care Items (Toothpaste, Deodorant, Shampoo, Soap, Etc.)

  • **Nonperishable dairy products (such as Parmalat)


**Bonus points will be provided for these items as they are in high demand.

The Engineering Governing Council (EGC) is your governing body of the Rutgers University School of Engineering on the Flagship Campus. Working in conjunction with the faculty and administration of the School of Engineering, the EGC strives to represent and further the needs and best interests of its constituency. Additionally, the EGC works in parallel with University administration and other Student Governing Associations to help give students at Rutgers University a stronger voice as a whole.
