Maintaining Engineering Web pages.
|
Simple steps once you have created an Engineering Webpage.
The two main things you need to know
1) What kind of account do you need to maintain a web site for Engineering courses?
>
2)Where will your web site be and in which directories will you have permission to create files in?
- Your web site will be placed into a directory with the rest of the courses for that major.
For example, if MAE349 (Mechanical Engineering Laboratory) is the class web site that you are working on. You would obtain the appropriate permission from Mark Sproul and put all of the files in the directory /www/classes/mae/mae349.
- This system makes it easier for students and faculty in the future to arbitrarily find
information on courses.
- Another example would be from the prospective student's perspective. If a student
wants to know what they would be doing in a Mechanical Engineering course and all they knew was that the course number was 14:650:349, they could go to http://coewww.rutgers.edu/classes/mae/mae349.
Other resources for web pages.(Please keep in mind that we support the use of HTML and PHP. We do not advocate using web editors such as Front Page, but you will still be able to use them if you choose.)
NCSA HTML PRIMER A comprehensive guide to programming in HTML.
PHP.ORG's guide to PHP A comprehensive guide to using PHP.
Unix documentation You can find important unix information and basic unix commands here.
NOTE: When using a dial up service other than Rutgers (such as: Cable, DSL line, etc..) it may not be possible to SFTP.
